Luxx Group Morning Suit Alterations

If you're altering a morning suit, the fit should be precise yet allow for ease of movement. Here’s a breakdown of key alterations:

Key Morning Suit Alterations

1. Morning Coat (Tailcoat) Adjustments

  • Sleeve Length – Should show ¼ to ½ inch of shirt cuff (like a dinner suit).
  • Waist Suppression – The coat should nip slightly at the waist but not restrict movement.
  • Tail Length – The tails should end just above the back of the knees (rarely altered unless bespoke).
  • Shoulders & Chest – Avoid major adjustments here; padding/structure is hard to modify.
2. Waistcoat (Vest) Alterations

  • Length – Should cover the waistband of the trousers but not overlap the tails.
  • Sides – Can be taken in or let out for a snug (not tight) fit.
  • Armholes – High-cut to prevent visibility under the coat.
 3. Striped Morning Trousers

  • Waist Height – Should sit at the natural waist (higher than modern suits).
  • No Belt Loops – Traditionally worn with braces (suspenders), so side adjusters may be added if needed.
  • Trouser Break – Slight or no break, with a clean drape (often slightly tapered but not skinny).
4. Lapel & Collar Fit

  • Peak Lapels – Should lie flat against the chest without gaping.
  • Shirt Collar – Ensure the morning coat’s collar sits neatly over your dress shirt.
